Thermal Insulation Materials

Thermal Fiberglass Paper

Non-respirable glass fiber paper delivers terrific thermal insulation properties and can withstand temperatures of up to 1200 °F. Available in white or black, this material leverages non-formaldehyde-based binders to provide excellent dimensional stability. It’s low Loss on Ignition (LOI) satisfies low smoke and odor requirements. With excellent thickness control, it is ideal as a high temperature precision gasket insulator. It also meets UL94V-0.

Thermal Insulation at 1000°F: Excellent

Temperature Resistance: Good to Very Good

Tensile Strength: Good

Applications:

  • Thermal insulation where space is at a premium

  • High temperature gaskets in stoves, boilers, or furnaces

  • Thermal shield in aerospace or automotive (when laminated with foil)

Alkaline Earth Silicate (AES) Papers

AES Paper is a thin and flexible ultra-high temperature insulation material with very good insulating performance. It is non-wetting to molten aluminum and immune to thermal shock. As a low bio-persistent fiber, it complies with stringent European regulatory requirements, including directive 97/69/EC and EC/1272/2008. AES papers are an excellent alternative to traditional solutions like ceramic fiber papers.

Applications:

  • Gasketing for industrial and domestic appliances

  • Induction furnace parting medium

  • Muffler insulation

  • Oven insulation

Ceramic Fiber Papers

Ceramic fiber is the primary solution for ultra-high temperature thermal and acoustical insulation and shielding needs. It is a preferred choice over fiberglass in applications where high temperature, insulating efficiency, and high strength are required. It is thin, has good dielectric strength and provides the flexibility required for wrapping applications, while also having the toughness to withstand corrosive environments. Available with BMS9-19 & AMS 3680 Rev C. approval.

High Temperature Needled Mats

High temperature needled mats come in a variety of materials and are a low-cost replacement for ceramic fiber paper and refractory fiber paper. There are several types of needle fiber mats available, with E glass fiber mats being the most common. Basalt fiber mats and silica fiber mats are used for more extreme application needs. These mats can often be leveraged to perform in tough applications for a reasonable cost.

High Temperature Fabric Tapes

High temperature fabric tapes are woven using specific yarns and coatings to provide specific properties that meet challenging gasketing, pipe wrapping, and thermal or electrical insulating applications. There are a variety of fabric tape options that include fiberglass fabric tape, basalt fabric tape, vermiculite coated fiberglass fabric tape, and ceramic fabric tape. Each provide unique advantages for specific application requirements.
